Dr. José Quezada grew up in New York City on food stamps and government assistance — and went on to serve 22 years as a United States Marine Corps officer, lead Marines in war, retire as a Captain, earn a Doctorate in Leadership and Innovation, and stand on stages across the country teaching the next generation that the circumstances of their beginning are not the boundaries of their becoming.
His story is the message. It is also the reason students listen.
A former college professor and longtime ROTC and JROTC instructor running the #1 program in his region, Dr. Quezada has personally taught, trained, and mentored thousands of students, cadets, and service members — and he knows exactly how to reach the teenager sitting in the back row with their arms crossed. He holds master’s degrees in Business Management, Public Agency Leadership, Political Science, and International Relations with a focus on negotiation, mediation, and peace-building, giving him a 360-degree view of how real leaders are forged, tested, and trusted. He is also a Latin American expert, having worked as a Foreign Area Officer representing America’s interests in the region.
But for Dr. Quezada, the work does not end when he steps off the stage. As President and CEO of Quezada Family Charities, he leads a non-profit dedicated to providing scholarships for impoverished children, feeding over one hundred families every Christmas, and putting toys in the hands of hundreds of children who might not otherwise have them. Over the last several years, his students have earned tens of millions of dollars in academic and military scholarships — money redirected from circumstance to possibility, one student at a time. His mission is not simply to inspire. It is to interrupt the perpetual cycle of poverty that keeps potential locked behind a zip code, and to give the next generation the tools, the belief, and the language to lead from wherever they are standing.

A world where every young person — regardless of zip code, family circumstance, or starting line — has access to the self-knowledge, the language, and the belief system to lead an intentional life. We envision a generation of young people who understand themselves deeply enough to make better decisions, build stronger communities, and break the cycles of poverty and limitation that circumstance placed in their path. Leadership is not a privilege reserved for the few. It is a human capacity waiting to be developed in everyone.

Equilibrio Leadership exists to develop the next generation of authentic leaders by giving young people the neuroscience, the identity framework, and the practical tools they need to lead from the inside out. Through speaking, education, mentorship, and community investment — including scholarships, family support, and direct outreach to underserved communities — we meet young people where they are and give them what no one else has: the belief that who they are becoming is more powerful than where they started.

We begin not with leadership theory but with self-knowledge — because a young person who understands the brain they are operating with, the masks they are wearing, and the space between what happens to them and what they choose to do next already has everything they need to lead. We begin not with leadership theory but with self-knowledge — because a young person who understands the brain they are operating with, the masks they are wearing, and the space between what happens to them and what they choose to do next already has everything they need to lead. Our work is personal, research-backed, and built on the conviction that the most important leadership development happens before a title, before a promotion, before anyone has told them they are worth investing in. We do not wait for that moment. We create it.
Each month, Dr. Quezada shares practical insights for parents and teens on adolescent brain development, leadership skills, and what actually works during the high school years. No fluff. Just useful.
